Island Lake Shooting Range Tour: Trap and Skeet

Tour stops: Sporting Clays Rifle and Pistol

Trap

Trap is the oldest and most popular of the clay target games. Named for the traps that live birds were originally released from, it simulates the flight of a game bird flushed ahead of the shooter. The trap throws targets that will fly from 48 to 52 yards away from the shooter. They are thrown at varying angles within a range of 45 degrees to left, right, or straightaway. One to five shooters move through five positions and the targets are thrown from a single machine. Five single targets are attempted from each position, totaling a 25 target round.

ATA registered Trap shoots, nonregistered fun shoots and league activity are currently being planned.

Skeet

Thrown on the same Island Lake fields as Trap, Skeet is a faster-paced game. The targets are thrown from high and low houses and cross the shooting field. The shooters move through 8 stations, shooting either singles or doubles, depending on the station. This also is a 25-target game.

For new shooters, our staff will gladly help you get started with an explanation of rules and basic instruction.
